WestJet eliminates fuel surcharge “because we said we would”
CALGARY, Alberta. September 18, 2008. WestJet today honoured its commitment to monitor the fuel environment and remove the fuel surcharge if and when the price of fuel subsided. The airline announced the removal of the fuel surcharge, effective 1 p.m. MT, in acknowledgement of the recent decline in fuel prices.
The surcharge was originally added last May, and was $20 for short-haul flights, $30 for medium range flights and $45 for long-haul flights. It is to be expected that the fuel cost may affect the price of a WestJet airline ticket, but that will be for consumers to see in upcoming months.
